Orchidaceae (Orchid Family)

Synonym: Malaxis brachypoda

Look Alikes: Listera species have two opposite stem leaves, while Malaxis has a single leaf near the base. Lysiella obtusata also has a single leaf, but has spurred flowers, while those of Malaxis are spurless and smaller.

Flowering/Fruiting Period: July/August.

Habitat: Shaded streamsides, mossy wet areas. Elev. 7200-8000 ft.

Distribution: Alaska to Newfoundland, Canada, Great Lake States, New England. Disjunct in California and Colorado (Boulder, El Paso, and Jefferson Cos.).
