Salicaceae (Willow Family)

Look Alikes: S. lanata ssp. calcicola has densely woolly young twigs, and usually has longer catkins (4 cm in length). S. boothii is taller and has sparsely pubescent leaves with petioles over 5 mm long.

Flowering/Fruiting Period: Catkins mature late June-mid July.

Habitat: Calcareous fens. Elev. 9300 ft.

Distribution: E Alaska and S Yukon, east to Newfoundland, south to British Columbia, Alberta, Montana and NW Wyoming; disjunct in Colo-rado (Park Co.).
