Papaveraceae (Poppy Family)

Synonym: Papaver lapponicum ssp. occidentale Look Alikes: P. croceum, an introduced plant persisting around old alpine mining townsites, has large bright orange petals.

Flowering/Fruiting Period: Flowers late June-August.

Habitat: Dry alpine tundra meadows, gravelly slopes, talus, scree, and fell-fields. Elev. 11,500-14,000 ft.
