Onagraceae (Evening-Primrose Family)

Look Alikes: Differs from other Oenothera species in Colorado in flower color, and in flower size (petals over 4 cm long).

Flowering/Fruiting Period: Flowers in September.

Habitat: Talus slopes and streambanks, in rocky soils derived from Tertiary volcanics, in mixed conifer forest. Elev. 8760 ft.

Distribution: Colorado endemic. Mineral Co. near Wolf Creek Pass. Entire population/species was eliminated by road construction in 1981 and 1982.
