Loasaceae (Loasa Family)

Synonym: Mentzelia argillosa

Look Alikes: N. multicaulis calyx lobes are 10-12 mm long; petals are lanceolate; stems are fairly straight and 20-40 cm tall. In general, Nuttallia species are highly variable, and often can only be distinguished by more technical seed coat characters.

Flowering/Fruiting Period: Late June-July/August.

Habitat: Steep eroding talus slopes of shale, Green River Formation. Elev. 5800-9000 ft.

Distribution: Utah and Colorado (Garfield Co.). The Utah and Colorado populations may be distinct species given their 200 mile separation and the tendency of Nuttallia species to form local endemic populations.
