CBWG's Annual Bat Treks
The CBWG hosts a summer meeting annually to revisit bat conservation topics that need to be addressed prior to the following spring meeting (typically held in April). The summer meeting is called our Bat Trek, where we combine business and pleasure. The Bat Trek is a chance to visit a part of Colorado, survey for bats, and tackle a little business.
Bat Trek 2007 (Aug 2 – 4)
The 2007 Bat Trek featured a return to the SW part of the state,
in search of Allen’s big-eared bat, (Idionycteris phyllotis).
Two nights were spent working along a riparian area with little success. The
last night was spent down on the Dolores River near Dove Creek (picture to
the left). While the weather was cool and the bat activity was slow, the spectacular
scenery helped make it a fun trip!
Bat Trek 2006 (Aug 17-19, 2005)
The 2006 Bat Trek was well attended, and focused on mist netting
and acoustic call monitoring in the southwest part of the state. The Bat Trek
started out on August 17, on the west side of the Paradox Valley, then moved
south to the Dove Creek area for 2 additional nights of bat work. The last
night was the most productive, with 7 species documented, including spotted
bats, and high anxiety at the “killer leech pond”!

Bat Trek 2005 (Sept.
2005)
This year's Bat Blitz will be held on the White River National Forest and
will be hosted by Joe Doerr of the White River National Forest. We will be
staying at the Coffee Pot Campground from September 9-11. The tentative plan
is to mist net for bats, monitor some caves for swarming use, and do some
cave visits during the day.
