About Us
Shortly after the 1996 Durango Four Corners Bat Meetings, where the Western Bat Working Group was formed, a handful of bat biologists from Colorado convened to develop a Colorado Bat Conservation Plan. Loosely aligned as a sub-committee of the WBWG, their mission was to develop a plan to conserve bat species found in Colorado. It wasn’t until 1998 that the group began referring to themselves as the Colorado Bat Working Group. Cheri Jones, then of the Denver Museum of Natural History, was the first “chair” of the group. Since 1998, there have been 4 chairs and co-chairs of the CBWG:
Michael Wunder (Colorado Natural Heritage Program,
1998-2000),
Laura Ellison (USGS Biological Resources Division,
2000-2003),
Kirk Navo (co-chair, Colorado Division of Wildlife, 2003-present), Kristen
Philbrook (co-chair, U.S. Forest Service, 2003-present).
